It's all about AFFORDABLE Nutrition ... What to Eat if You Can't Pay for Expensive Diet Foods

How come fast-food restaurants super-size your French fries but not your salad? How come candy bars keep getting bigger and bigger? The economy packs of food will save you money but not calories! How do you lose weight on a budget?

Here are some interesting thoughts...
If you go to your favorite coffee house and buy a grande latte several times a week ... do you know how many calories your getting and how much cash your spending? One grande lattte is approximately 300 calories and about $3.00. So, if you are drinking your favorite beverage just three times a week, you are consuming an additional 900 calories and spending $9.00 a week. It doesn't seem like a lot? Well, those additional calories per week will total 13 pounds a year and you will be spending approximately $470 each year.

Some more creative ideas...
Bring your lunch. A delicious homemade salad will save calories and dollars. If you are used to spending as little as $5 a day, you can save over $1,500 a year (based on a five-day week). You can buy a new wardrobe with that money. -- Diet & Fitness newsletter

Drink water. If you switch your favorite drink from soda or a sugary juice to water, you will pump up your metabolism and inflate your bank account. If you used to spend $2 a day on soda, you'll save $600 a year (based on a five-day week). That could send you on vacation. -- Diet &.Fitness newsletter

Learn how to go bulk shopping on a diet. With low-fat meats, purchase the biggest pack and freezer-bag it in portions. Also, buying frozen vegetables instead of always buying fresh can save money, and they still maintain most of the vitamins. (But be careful which veggies you choose; some don't maintain their flavor.) Lose the costly low-fat cookies and desserts. Go for the fruits, applesauce and low-fat instant puddings instead.

Go generic! Buying the "store" or generic brand can save a bundle. In many instances, the store brand is actually a name brand with a store label. The container or packaging may not be appealing, but does that really matter?

Get supermarket savvy. (When you want to budget yourself, you need to make a list before you go to the grocery store. Make the list contain healthy items such as vegetables and fruit juices. When you shop, you must stick to those items only.

Don't go in hungry. I never go shopping with a hungry stomach. I always bring toast with peanut butter for the ride to the store. I also bring my water into the store and look forward to the fresh fruit. I will eat on my way home. Or, buy some carrots to munch on while grocery shopping.
