BLB Consulting to assist ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Programs grant awarded to Harmony House
ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Programs has awarded Harmony House an internship grant for a senior level dietetic student. This eight week internship is a paid position. Student needs to be in an undergraduate program and will return full time in the fall of 2012 and must have completed their Junior year.
Harmony House is a respite center. Clients may include individuals who are financially and medically challenged as well as without permanent residence. Clients will be nutritionally assessed and assisted with their medical and some financial needs through the center. The medical model is staffed by personnel from the Harris County Hospital District and includes a Physician and Nurse Practitioner. The intern will assist in the Nutritional Care of each resident, performing a complete Nutritional Assessment, follow-up care and overseeing the food service to the facility. While overseeing the food service operations the intern will be involved in menu planning, purchasing and inventory control. The intern will participate in meetings, educational sessions and development of educational materials. The intern will also participate in the planning and development of a new kitchen facility that will be housed in the future facility that is under design. Harmony House is in a unique position of growth and expansion.
In addition, the intern will participate in the out processing and determination of the future nutrition care for the residents that return to the community. The role of the Registered Licensed Dietitian in the care of the medically indigent population and the diversity of skills that are needed to serve this population, should be fully understood at the end of the internship.
